In The Beginning...

Like many bands, it could be said that Tykküs formed simply by being in the right place at the right time.

However, there are those who do not believe in coincidence.

The early weeks of 2003 found Justin and Steve exiting the band Next Realm with a desire to continue their musical partnership. And while the specifics were undetermined at that point, it was agreed that the project would consist of focus and truth.

Within a handful of days, Justin and Dale bumped into each other while shopping with their families. Friends since a stalled band in the mid-1990's, they had kept in touch over the years, and as both were sans band, the invitation was given to meet at Steve's house and compare ideas. The chemistry was clearly still there, and the charge given to "see where it goes".

Within a month's period, the music was tighter than any of them could imagine after such a short period of time. Early 2004 found the band playing regularly and paying their dues in the clubs around Phoenix and by 2005, Tykküs was a force to be reckoned with. Spring of 2005 marked the release of their first studio recording, a five-song EP entitled Ümlaut, and a number of high profile festival shows placed the band on the radar screens of the Christian metal scene on an international level.

But the band’s exposure and is not and will never be limited to the Christian circles; the vast majority of the live shows take place not in churches, but shoulder to shoulder with their secular counterparts in nightclubs and other concert venues. In fact, it was the notoriety Tykküs gained as a tight, energetic, headbanging metal machine that found the band closing 2005 by sharing the stage with none other than melodic metal legends Dokken.

2006 is shaping up to be as exciting as 2005 for Tykküs. Local and regional live shows are currently being booked and the band intends to commence recording a full length CD in the near future. What’s more, Tykküs will be featured on a number of compilations, including The Christian Metal Realm’s “Thorns of Redemption II” and live video footage on the Holy Soldier DVD “Live, Rare & Raw”.

Coincidence? Luck? While a fictional character, the statement made by Obi-Wan Kenobi in "Star Wars" holds true - "In my experience, there's no such thing as luck."

When it comes to God, the terms "luck" and "coincidence" are misnomers. It is by faith that Tykküs was created and it is by faith that Tykküs continues.
